Collection: Portulacaria

Portulacaria is a genus of succulent shrubs and small trees native to South Africa. The most well-known species is Portulacaria afra, commonly known as Elephant Bush. These plants are characterized by their thick, fleshy leaves which are often small and round. They typically have a reddish-brown stem and can grow both as shrubs or, in ideal conditions, as small trees reaching up to 4 meters (13 feet) in height. Portulacaria species are popular as ornamental plants and are favored for bonsai cultivation due to their compact growth and ease of care. They thrive in bright light and prefer well-draining soil, making them suitable for indoor cultivation in many regions.
