What are Aeoniums?

Aeoniums are a genus of succulent plants native to the Canary Islands, Madeira, and North Africa. They belong to the Crassulaceae family, which also includes other succulents like jade plants and sedums. They are popular ornamental plants grown for their striking appearance and are often cultivated in gardens, containers, or as houseplants in regions with mild climates. Aeoniums are known for their ability to go dormant during hot, dry periods and their tendency to produce new offsets from the base of the rosette, allowing them to propagate relatively easily.
